Really good watch, could watch again, and can recommend.
This is a surprisingly good movie, and maybe that's because I went in ready to hate it. This is "The Purge", but with drugs and alcohol, or imagine Rumspringa on steroids. I'm definitely not the demographic for this, but when a movie is put together so well, the subject matter is almost secondary.
Skyler Gisondo does a decent job, he's one of those guys that shows up in bit parts, but this shows he can lead a movie.
Eduardo Franco might have been the only one I know of that could have landed the delivery of his role and even then it's almost a throw away character. Grace Van Dien is little more than "lead cute girl", and Vince Vaughn is probably the best acting in this, which is your red flag right there. Even if you think he's funny, I don't imagine his fans saying he's a great actor.
It's not the character delivery, or the character based writing....or even really the plot that makes this worth a watch. It is almost entirely the production value. They probably could have gotten any 5 dingbats to play the main parts with limited elevation of characters and we still would have gotten a good movie.
Honestly, what makes this movie great is that someone handed a good director a poor to mediocre scene and they figured out how to shoot it so it was vibrant and engaging and entertaining, and as the scenes get increasingly ridiculous, they kept it refreshing.
The broadway show musical in the middle of it (not really a spoilers, you'll see) alone is a worthy enough joke to watch this.
The movie is funny, I'm pretty sure it's not good, but it's definitely worth a laugh.
